Wyrdiat (Fragment of a work in progress)

For before we were humans

We indeed were monsters

And had not discovered the Wyrd,

The name of the suspicion of threats

In the most ancient of days

Our tribes journeyed out from Africa

Reaching across all corners of the earth

And some, our first cousins, stayed home

And within our thousands

Brother left brother, sister left sister

Ever to spread our tribes

The blood of nomad cousins

It is a Wyrdiat –a journey away from

The oppressions of fear and awe,

A journey into the birthright

Of shared humanity
