Sabrage (A poem)

Sabrage

And the sunlight speaks a sudden song,

Breaking in on the day like the pounding hooves

Of a triumphant cavalry – distant, but promising

Warmth, freedom, our dreams.

The leaves rustle and snap in the wind,

Applauding spontaneous pleasures, fulfilling

The natural banners and flags

Of our common humanity.

It is now that affection fills me, deepens me

And carries away the pent-up gloom.

In a single stroke – just like

Sabrage.
